Footballer Girl From Karachi

“My dad is my best friend. We are inseparable. Even on Sundays, we have this tradition where we go for ‘chaat’ and 'paani puri'. Every Sunday- without fail. Our bond is special because we connect over sports. He taught me how to play everything; basketball, football, baseball. He broke his collar bone once while coaching me and my friends. He never missed a single game I ever played while I was in school no matter how busy he was. He taught me how to swim also. I made it to the Nationals for rowing as well. Now I coach and play football and it is all because of him.

A lot of changes are going to be taking place in my life soon. My brother is going away for university and I’m going into training at my fathers business to learn about how things are done. He owns a few restaurants in Karachi and Lahore and has put his heart and soul into them. As a kid I always loved going over and watching the chefs cook. It’s where I learned to cook myself. I make really good steaks by the way, you can ask my teammates.
My father says I have to start training from the bottom; the dishwasher basically and work my way up. He says when you start from the bottom you know how things work, then you can bring about changes and make a difference. Like, maybe I can figure out how to use less water while maintaining the quality of cleanliness.
I’m probably not going to be able to play too much football anymore but I’m really excited about working with my dad. He’s had two heart attacks before and isn’t feeling well these days. It’s time I step up and learn all I can from him.”
