How to Make a Fun Skype Language File? skype tricks

Find me here
Fun fileAll the text all over the interface of Skype is stored in a special file called a language file. When you switch between language settings, simply a new previously made file is loaded. But the guys from Skype has made it possible for us to edit these files and save new custom language files. I smell some fun here :). What is to stop us from making a totally crazy language file with cool menus and messages? Don’t answer that, just follow the steps:

  1. Open Skype and sign in with your username and password.
  2. From the menu Tools click Change Language and after that Edit Skype Language File…
  3. A window opens, containing all the different messages, menus, labels, descriptions and so on, that are used in Skype. In the lower part of the window there is a field for searching. In it you need to fill in the text you want to change. For example you can search for “Call”. When you click the button, the correct cell is selected.
  4. After you find the cell from the table, click in it and fill in the new text. The same way you can change as much as you want from the interface text in Skype.
  5. When you are done, click the button Save as… and save the file in a save location :).
  6. Click the button Load, find the file you created and open it.
  7. Hit the red X in the top right and you are done. If you ever want to switch back to the old file, go in Tools -> Change Language -> English (or whatever you have renamed it to ;))
Keep in mind that this change will be visible only to you and only on this computer. Also you must not delete or move the language file you have created.
