We only stayed 10 days with the teenagers we were teaching, yet I became something like a mentor to my students. It was crazy to realize how a dozen foreigners were their only window to other cultu
res. They were sincerely curious and the differences between us actually made dialogue easier. You would not think they could be so locked down in their classes.
One day, a shy boy wrote in his diary “Before, I was buried in studies but teacher Marion changed it". Having had an impact on their lives still moves me today.
